How many games are guaranteed?
For all of our standard boys tournaments in Ontario, Quebec, and BC, teams are guaranteed 5 games. For our US tournaments, teams are guaranteed 4 games. For all girls tournaments, teams are guaranteed 4 games, with the exception of the Queen of the Rings, in which teams are guaranteed 5 games.
What time will we start on Friday?
For 5 game minimum tournaments, teams will typically play 2 games on Friday, 2 games on Saturday, and at least 1 game on Sunday. Though the first games typically start around 12:00 pm, teams are expected to be ready to play their first game as early as 8:00 on Friday morning.
What arena will we be playing at?
Most of our tournaments use multiple facilities over the course of the weekend. We can’t say for sure which rink your division will be playing out of until the schedule is actually built; this is based on the number of teams in each division and the ice available at each rink.
When will the schedule be posted?
The schedule is posted online 7-10 days before each tournament. Our deadline for posting the schedule is 5:00 pm on the Friday preceding the tournament. Once posted, the schedule is available on the tournament website; you can access it by clicking on the ‘Schedule’ link.
How do I send a payment?
You can pay for your entry fee by Visa or MasterCard, either through the online payment portal available on each tournament website or over the phone. You can pay by cheque, as long as we receive it at least 3 weeks before the tournament to allow time for processing. You can also pay by cash, cheque, or credit card at the customer service desk of any of our Canlan facilities.
What credit cards do you accept?
We accept credit card payments by Visa and MasterCard.
Can a player play up a year? Can he/she play down a year?
We allow a player to play up if the team’s coaching staff feels they won’t be overmatched to the point of risking injury to that player.
We do not allow players to play down a year. The only exception to this rule: girls playing on boys teams are allowed to play down a year.
How do I get insurance for my spring and summer team?
We are able to provide insurance certificates for sport accident insurance to cover your team for a tournament. The cost is $40 + PST for your whole team; practices that are held at a Canlan facility within 48 hours of the tournament start date can be covered at a rate of $20 + PST per practice. Once we receive the payment, we will create and send you the certificate.
My kid would like to play in a tournament. Can you help get him on a team?
We run a program that assembles teams of individual players who want to participate in our tournaments. The Cyclones (boys) and Ice Kats (girls) teams play in many of our events throughout the spring and summer.
How many teams does a division need to have to run?
Typically, we will run a division if there are at least 4 teams of similar age and skill level. We have on some occasions run 3 team divisions.
When do you need my roster?
We will email you a login and password before the tournament; use it to enter your roster online ahead of the tournament. You can still register your team even if your roster isn’t finalized!
Do we have to stay at one of your host hotels?
We work closely with our host and partner hotels to ensure they are offering excellent group rates and amenities to participating teams and their families. We ask that you support our events by choosing any one of our highly recommended properties, which have been selected for their commitment to customer service, great rates, and their proximity to Canlan facilities.
Is the 2002 division body-checking?
Divisions at the 2002 age group will allow body-checking. This based on the demand from teams looking to start practicing contact for next season.
If there are enough teams with a common interest for non-contact we can run a separate division.
